This picture of the statue below was made by an Iraqi artist named Kalat, who for years was forced by Saddam Hussein to make the many hundreds of bronze busts of Saddam that dotted Baghdad.  This artist was so grateful that the Americans liberated his country, he melted 3 of the fallen Saddam heads and made a memorial statue dedicated to the American soldiers and their fallen comrades.  Kalat worked on this night and day for several months.
<<<

To the left of the kneeling soldier is a small Iraqi girl giving the
soldier comfort as he mourns the loss of his comrade in arms.  It is
currently on display outside the palace that is now home to the 4th
Infantry division.  It will eventually be shipped and shown at the memorial museum in Fort Hood, Texas.

Mysteries

of

 Coral

Castle !

Joe Bullard (waitingforagnes) shared his research into the fascinating history behind Coral Castle and its builder, Ed Leedskalnin. After being jilted by his young fiancée, Agnes, in his native Latvia, Leedskalnin eventually moved to the US, where he was diagnosed with terminal tuberculosis. However, Bullard noted that Ed was eventually given a clean bill of health, and he speculated that he may have found curative powers from the magnets he was working with as he began to build Coral Castle in Florida, as a tribute to his lost love Agnes.

One of Leedskalnin's unique devices that used magnets was the "perpetual motion holder," though he never got a patent on it, Bullard said. How the frail Leedskalnin, who weighed just 100 pounds, moved the huge rocks has become an enduring mystery. He made claims that he had the same secret knowledge that was used to build the pyramids in Egypt, but after he was beaten up by thugs, he became less vocal about touting his devices, and Bullard suggested the attack may have been a deliberate attempt to silence him

While Leedskalnin worked secretively at night carving and moving the giant coral stones, Bullard believes he may have allowed certain children to witness what he was doing. In fact, two boys once described seeing him float stones "like hydrogen balloons," he said. Bullard has tried to bring more serious attention to Coral Castle, in the hopes of unlocking some of its mysteries, but he said Florida's governor Jeb Bush did not respond to his inquiry about this when he had a meeting with him.

  Near Miss?

Look at this incredible picture taken by a German aviation photographer.

A Lufthansa 747-400 and a United 757-200 are on a simultaneous
landing approach on the parallel runways 28L and 28R at SFO.

The real runway separation is 225 meters.

Due to the telephoto distortion, the Jumbo 747 being 3 times larger
than the 757 and being behind it, gives us this fantastic optical illusion
that they are flying inches from each other!!!

The Largest Bucket Wheel Excavator in the world.....

Built by Krupp, seen here crossing a federal highway in Germany en route to its
destination (an open-pit coal mine), it is cheaper to move the thing like this, than to

construct or re-assemble on-site.

The mover stands at over 311 feet tall and is over
705 feet long. It weighs over 45,500 tons (yes that's 45 thousand tons!) Cost $100
million USD, took 5 years to design & manufacture and 5 years to assemble.

It only requires 5 people to operate it. The Bucket Wheel is over 70 feet in diameter with 20 buckets, each of which can hold over 530 cubic feet of material. A 6-foot man can stand up inside one of the buckets. It moves on 12 crawlers (each is 12 feet wide, 7'-10" high and 46 feet long). There are 8 crawlers in front and 4 in back. It has a maximum speed of 1 mile in 3 hours (1/3 mile/hour). It can remove over 76,455 cu! bic meters (100,000 large dump trucks at 40Yds. each of overburden per day.
